Pinestead Farm Lodge, Franconia

The Pinestead Farm Lodge in Franconia is a rustic and very comfortable place to stay.  No televisions, wi-fi or phones in the rooms.  Just a quiet little place to get away from the hustle of suburbia.  If I wanted a place to write, this is where I'd find inspiration.  Pinestead Farm has been hosting lodgers since the 1800's and is just down the road a bit from Robert Frost's Farm.  Pinestead is a working farm on 200 acres with wonderful hosts that don't intrude unless you invite them.  Bob is a fount of knowledge about farming and maple syruping.  The farm still makes their own cedar shake shingles, sells produce and maple syrup. You won't find dilapidated barns falling in from disrepair.  This is what a farm is supposed to look like.  Kathleen makes quilts and has a little quilt shop down in Woodstock, just on the left after the visitors center. As a base for our trip down into Franconia Notch it was perfect.  Don't expect a fancy hotel and you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for a clean quiet place where you can regroup and fix a meal after hiking in the Notch you'll find it to be exactly what you need.
